Please read carefully to avoid any surprises.
1) DRIVER REQUIREMENTS & DOCUMENTS
To rent a vehicle, all drivers must present the required original documents at pick-up.
- A full valid driving licence and a valid ID card or passport are required for all drivers listed on the rental agreement.
- All parts of the driving licence must be presented.
- Drivers must be between 25 and 75 years old.
- Drivers aged 23–24 or over 70, with at least 1 year of driving licence, may still rent the vehicle, subject to an extra fee of €60 per contract for rentals of up to 30 days.
- Only drivers registered on the rental agreement are insured. Any unauthorised driver is not covered by any insurance.
- For airport rentals, customers should provide their flight number and arrival time to ensure smooth service.
- Before leaving the station, the renter must inspect the vehicle and make sure any existing damage is recorded on the rental agreement. If anything is missing, a Dirent a car employee must be informed immediately.
- For bookings of 1–2 days, mileage is limited to 200 km per day.
2) DEPOSIT, CARDS, INSURANCE & EXCESS
A rental guarantee is required, and the preferred method is a credit card in the main driver’s name.
- A credit card in the driver’s name is the preferred and most reliable way to secure the rental guarantee.
*American Express (AMEX) cards are not accepted in Corfu.
At all other stations, AMEX cards are accepted with an additional fee of 10% on all transactions, including payments and pre-authorizations.
- If the renter does not have a credit card, debit cards may be accepted, provided the card allows a guarantee hold. In such cases, an extra fee of €30 + VAT will apply.
- If the renter does not have a credit card, the renter may alternatively be offered additional insurance instead of a credit card guarantee.
- Upon booking confirmation, a non-refundable deposit is required to validate the reservation. Once the deposit is received, a final booking confirmation is sent.
- Basic CDW is included, with an excess depending on the vehicle category.
- Optional ERC, SCDW, CBC and GOLD products are available and may reduce the renter’s excess, depending on the selected vehicle group.
- Minimum and maximum duration rules apply to optional coverage products:
- ERC: minimum 3 days, maximum 15 days
- SCDW: minimum 3 days, maximum 15 days
- CBC: minimum 4 days
- Insurance becomes void in cases such as driving under the influence, reckless or negligent use, use by an unauthorised driver, and ferry use without prior authorisation.

Golden Package reduces the renter’s excess in eligible accidental damage cases only and does not apply in cases involving breach of the rental terms, prohibited use, gross negligence, intentional misconduct, or any other excluded circumstance. Cases involving alcohol or drug use, dangerous or reckless behaviour, or suspected intentional damage may lead to loss of coverage, subject always to the facts and circumstances of each individual case. Each incident is assessed separately.
3) FUEL, FERRY, LATE RETURN & EXTRA CHARGES
Please read the following carefully, as these are the most common additional charges during a rental.
- The vehicle must be returned with the same fuel level as at pick-up.
- To avoid refuelling charges, customers are advised to refill the vehicle before return and keep the fuel receipt in case they are asked to present it.
- If the vehicle is returned with less fuel, refuelling charges apply according to the missing fuel quantity and vehicle category, plus any applicable service fee.
- A 60-minute grace period is allowed at the end of the rental. After that, one full rental day may be charged.
- A late return of 1 hour or more without notice may also result in a minimum €50 charge or daily rental charges.
- Early return without notice is not refundable, and an early return fee may apply.
- Rental extensions are possible only upon request and must be approved before the scheduled return time.
- Cross-border rentals are not allowed.
- Ferry use is allowed only with prior written agreement and applicable extra fees of €60.
- Special ferry restrictions currently include:
- Corfu: €100
- Crete: no ferry authorisation to Gavdos
– €80 to Santorini, Paros, Naxos - Skiathos: €75 only to Skopelos and Alonnisos
- If the vehicle is taken on a ferry without authorisation, insurance may become invalid.
- Extra services and charges may also include:
- Additional Driver: €30 per rental agreement, unless included in the booking
- One-Way Rental: on request, extra fees apply
- Child Seats: €25–€50 per rental
- GPS: €50 per rental
- Out-of-Hours Service: €30 per service
- Please always check the instructions shown for your selected rental location, as ferry permissions, extra fees, and out-of-hours service may vary from station to station.
4) BOOKING, CONFIRMATION & CANCELLATIONS
Please note that all bookings are subject to availability and are confirmed only after validation by Dirent a car.
- After you submit your request, Dirent a car will reply within 24 hours with either a confirmation or a rejection based on availability.
- Once your booking is confirmed, a non-refundable deposit is required in order to validate the reservation.
- After the deposit is received, a final booking confirmation will be sent.
- Deposits are non-refundable under any circumstances.
- If you wish to extend your rental, this must be requested and approved before the scheduled return time.
- Early return without notice is not refundable, and an early return fee may apply.
5) PRODUCTS & OPTIONAL SERVICES
Optional products and services are available upon request and may incur additional charges.
- Additional Driver: €30 per rental agreement, unless already included in the booking.
- Where stated during the booking process, the first additional driver may be included free of charge.
- One-Way Rentals: available on request and extra fees apply.
- Child Seats: €50 per rental.
- GPS: €50 per rental.
- Out-of-Hours Service: €30 per service, where available.
- At many stations in Greece and Cyprus, a representative may meet the customer after standard office hours. Please always check the instructions shown for your selected Dirent a car location.
6) TRAFFIC FINES, ADMIN FEES & TAXES
The renter is responsible for any fines, penalties, and additional charges arising during the rental.
- All traffic and parking fines remain the renter’s responsibility.
- In addition to the amount of the fine itself, a €50 administrative fee applies for every ticket or fine issued during the rental period.
- If the renter is responsible for an accident, an additional €150 + VAT administrative fee applies.
- VAT of 24% applies to all rates.
- Some locations may also charge a 0.5% municipal tax.
7) ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE, BREAKDOWNS & REPLACEMENT VEHICLE
Basic roadside assistance is included during the rental.
- Basic roadside assistance is included.
- Towing is covered in breakdown cases, except when the issue is caused by lost or damaged keys, wrong fuel, or an empty fuel tank.
- Replacement vehicles may be provided within 48 hours, subject to availability and at additional cost.
- Coverage does not include lost rental days while the vehicle is under repair.
8) VEHICLE CONDITION, INSPECTION & CLEANLINESS
The renter is responsible for checking and returning the vehicle in acceptable condition.
- Before leaving the station, the renter must inspect the vehicle and ensure that any existing damage is recorded on the rental agreement.
- After the rental, a Customer Service Associate will record the fuel level, kilometres, and any new damages.
- Vehicles returned in unacceptable condition may incur a dirty return fee of €25.
- Pets are allowed according to local law, but if the vehicle is returned with hair, stains, or odour, a bio-cleaning fee of €80 will apply.
- Customers should check all parts of the vehicle for personal belongings before leaving it, including the glove box, trunk, center console, and under the seats.
9) WHAT IS NOT COVERED / WHEN INSURANCE BECOMES VOID
Insurance and protection products do not apply in all cases.
Insurance becomes void in cases such as:
- driving under the influence
- reckless or negligent use of the vehicle
- use by an unauthorised driver
- ferry use without prior authorisation
The following are also excluded from coverage:
- damage to the clutch, battery, interior, tyres, roof, undercarriage, mirrors, and antenna
- lost keys
- wrong fuel
- taxi transfers
- towing, except in covered breakdown cases
- lost rental days while the vehicle is being repair
